A 2 Chan thread from back in the day gets urban legendized in this bizarre yet highly original horror film. As the legend goes, if you ride a series of particular trains at particular times, you get transported to another dimension.
Kisaragi Station is an incredibly fun film. The alternate dimension our heroine arrives in feels like a cross between a J-horror ghost film and a David Lynch nightmare. Than, the people in that world speak like video game NPCs with one given line that they repeat on loop in order for the events to progress. The people that are trapped there get hunted by an unknown force that either makes their head explode, spontaneously combust or grow tree roots from their orifices. The tension and on screen chaos never lets up until its grim old twist.
Stylistically choices will be make or break for some. All the special effects are done digitally, yet I think they work here. The alternative dimension has cheap color filters all over the screen, and is shot in a bug-eyed wide angle so everything looks distorted and stretches out for miles, which again I think works great here!
