The Jean Rollin of Nikkatsu Roman Porno – from the same writer as “House!” This film, in its grape-smashed, blood-smeared glory, needs to rise like the moon. Restore this. Watch this. It doesn’t matter if you are wary of the Roman Porno genre. This is a must for Eurohorror fans and could be your gateway into another of the world’s greatest genres: Roman Porno and the pink film. Dig in 🦷 🍇 🩸
Luckily, I watched this subtitled. The revenge plot stems from the death of her boyfriend after a bottle is thrown at his head. He dies inside of her. Her subsequent revenge against the drivers – and later all drivers – recalls revenge plots from Rollin (like “Killing Car”) and Jess Franco (“She Killed in Ecstasy”). So her killings are triggered by her period – playing into menstrual and werewolf-like horror without going into the supernatural. Her killing during sex recalled other subversive classics like “Lady Frankenstein” and “Nekromantik 2.” Like me, this film is drunk on Eurohorror!
The writer, Chiho Katsura, also explored the female desire for darkness and death in his other films, such as the giallo-riffs, “Zoom In: Sex Apartments” (where the lead desires arsonist-rapists) or “Zoom Up: Murder Site.” He even wrote a Matador-like pairing of two watersports fanatics in “Zoom Up: Beaver Book Girl,” where they’re bound by trauma and kinks. His writing credits – and House – are must watches for the genre.

The director, Fumihiko Kato, also directed the SUBLIME “Girl and the Wooden Horse Torture,” which turns the “Angel Guts” characters of Nami and Muraki into one of the most beautiful and dreamy Roman Pornos. Of course, he delivered again.
Our lead even ends the film, clad in a light red gown that recalls the transparent fabrics of Jean Rollin. Or, like “The Laughing Woman,” she’s on to the next man.
Even with 70 Roman Porno films I’ve seen, there’s always new wonders buried within – like this. We need restorations and releases. Mondo Macabro, Vinegar Syndrome or an OCN partner label could strike gold – or bite red – with this film. Vinegar Syndrome, this will make you LOVE grapes.
