Bloodbath at Pinky High Part 2 follows on from the events in Part 1 with Maki the Lone Wolf assuming the lead role and setting out to avenge Midori, who died in the first film. Ranko now rules the school with the help of three hyper-delinquents – Rakish O-Gin, Kiriko the Praying Mantis and Rinka the Parasol – who have been drawn from schools across Japan.
Directed by Toshiya Kominami who delivers a broadly similar plot to the first film but dials down the Pinky satire without completely removing it. In the first fight, for instance, Maki’s main fighting technique would appear to consist of ripping open her opponent’s blouses to expose their breasts. Having Maki at the centre of the film improves matters as she offers a better central figure with a closer stylistic affinity to the heroines from the classic Sukeban and pinky violence genres than Midori offered in the first film.
The violence is cartoonish, and the story fantasy tinged with some superfluous subplots. It is also completely female-centric (the only male characters being two middle aged school inspectors who are leering, schoolgirl obsessed pervs). Overall, this is a fun, silly and amusing with little substance. The score isn’t as good this time around.
